A Legacy to Fighting Blindness

As a voluntary organisation of and for people with retinal disorders, we are very grateful for the gifts we receive from our members and others who support our work.

By including Retina New Zealand in your will, with a small percentage of your estate after you have looked after your family and friends, you will help us continue to foster and promote:

  • Research into retinal disorders, their causes and effects, treatments and eventual cure.
  • Mutual support by and for people with retinal disorders (and their families).
  • Information about retinal disorders and services for people with retinal disorders.
  • Public awareness of retinal disorders.

Our suggested wording for a Will or codicil is.

“I give and bequeath to Retina New Zealand Incorporated, registered with the New Zealand Charities Commission (CC 23240),

$ (a specific dollar amount);

(A specific percentage) of my estate;

(The whole or a specific percentage) of the residue of my estate;

(Describe precisely the item of property), free from all duties and charges, as a contribution to Retina New Zealand Incorporated to be applied for (XYZ) for which the receipt of Retina New Zealand Incorporated shall be sufficient discharge to my trustees.”

Note: (XYZ) here could simply be:

  • the greatest area of need within Retina New Zealand, or
  • an activity or objective you identify with, or
  • a reference to a more specific statement of intentions.
We would be delighted to help you define how we could apply your bequest to reflect what’s important to you.

You may wish to specify how the funds are to be used, any process of application for the funds, recipient criteria, and type of expenditure.  If you outline your objectives and intentions, we can provide information on relevant options to ensure the outcomes achieved as a result of your generosity are meaningful to you.
